Please note:
– Attendance will be really important. We have a lot to cover in the next 5 classes as well as a lot of practice is needed to get familiar with correct spellings.
– As also noted in previous weeks, some of you still have difficulty differentiating between the following:
ਕ / ਖ, ਰ / ੜ, ਟ / ਠ, ਤ / ਥ / ਦ, …
-The above understanding/skill is a strict requirement to pass this level (actually it is level-1 material). Those with difficulty will need extra practice with saying them and oral comprehension (writing as they are said). Parents who themselves are not saying them correctly should use other available material/audio for learning. Note these words as examples:
ਕਸੂਰ (fault), ਕੰਘਾ, ਖ਼ਰਬੂਜ਼ਾ, ਖੇਡਾਂ (games)
ਟਮਾਟਰ, ਗੁੱਟ (wrist), ਗਿੱਠ (span of stretched hand), ਠੰਢਾ, ਬੈਠਕ (sitting area)

Each letter’s muhaaenee should fit in one line of the page, so please write consistently, not large letters, and compare the written maatraas with the text book for accuracy.
After writing all 10 letters, say the muharnee many times to get familiar. The kids mix up some maatraas like kanna and dulaavaa(n) so it is very important to keep going over.
Also please note: some kids are still not able to distinguish between certain letters in the alphabet (examples: ਕ/ਖ, ਚ/ਛ, ਪ/ਭ). Unfortunately this is a requirement from level-1, and is impeding our ability to move at expected speed in level-2! It is possible they are missing out on practicing at home, so please give this issue extra importance.
Another note: a few kids seem to have difficulty in paying attention and are nearly constantly disrupting the class. As parents ourselves, we all know how important it is teach them this life skill at an early age! Please keep reminding them of expected behavior and simple courtesy towards the rest of the class, the teachers, and themselves.

[please do all writing work nicely, accurately and not too large]
1. Please read the passages on pages 11, 13, and 15 in the workbook. Some of the students did not seem to have practiced pages 11 and 13 enough last week, based on their difficultly in reading them in class. It is very important to read them several times over the week.
2. Write the sihaaree words from page 15 and bihaaree words from page 17 in the homework notebook and also read them aloud.
3. Re-write the maatraas as done in previous week’s homework and sound them verbally. Also say the maatraa names as written in English.
4. Some students still have difficulty distinguishing sounds of neighboring letters of the alphabet (ਕ/ਖ, ਚ/ਛ, ਟ/ਠ, ਤ/ਥ, also ਰ/ੜ). Everyone must be able to recognize them simply by hearing the sound/words (said correctly, of course)! Some are also mixing up ਛ with ਸ਼. You may use the recordings of the letters sent some time ago, but also say words correctly that have these letters.
5. Write the words in the picture below in the homework notebook and say them aloud. Please ignore any specific spelling concerns for now (write exactly as shown):
HOMEWORK: October 13, 2018

– From page 11 of the workbook, write all “muktaa” words in the homework book

ਾ kanna ਾ
ਿ sihaaree ਿ

ੁ onkaR ੁ
ੂ dulai(n)kaR ੂ
ੇ laa(n)v ੇ
ੈ dulaavaa(n) ੈ
ੋ hoRaa ੋ

– Encourage good and accurate writing
– Try to fit each letter’s muhaarnee in a single line on the paper, and line up all the letters so they look nicely written

– After writing each line, say it out loud (accurately)
